IKADA

IKADA

Stay At IKADA

IKADA is not a hotel. It is an entire house in Yanma, Sumiyo, where Western comfort meets traditional Japanese design — a modest base for mangrove paddles, shared meals, and letting Amami set the pace. Some areas are still being improved. Spaces marked Private are for the owners and are not for guest use.

FAQ

Good to know before you come.

Do we need a rental car?

Yes, strongly recommended. IKADA is meant for slow island travel, but the area is rural and public transport is limited.

Why book directly on this website?

You book the entire house and talk to us directly. The calendar is synced with Airbnb and Booking.com, so the dates you see here are live.

How does payment work?

You pay the full amount by card through Stripe when you book. Your stay is confirmed as soon as the payment goes through, and you receive a confirmation email.

What if our plans change?

Cancellations 14 or more days before check-in are refunded in full, 7–13 days before receive 50%, and later cancellations are not refunded. If flights are cancelled by a typhoon, contact us and we will work it out together.

How does check-in work?

Check-in is 15:00–19:00 and check-out 10:00–11:00. Entry instructions, parking notes, and Wi-Fi details are emailed a few days before arrival.

Why do you ask for guest details and passports?

Japanese inn law requires us to keep a guest register with each guest's name and address, and the nationality and passport number of guests who do not live in Japan. You can fill it in online before arrival.

Where do we buy groceries?

There is no supermarket in the village. Stock up in Naze or Setouchi on the way in; a convenience store is about 10 minutes by car.

Can we use the paddleboards?

Yes. Two SUPs are included and you can launch from the house into the mangroves. We are happy to suggest good tide times. Please always check the weather and never paddle alone in rough conditions.

Is IKADA good for families and groups?

Yes. The house sleeps up to 10 across three bedrooms and the living room, with a big kitchen, garden, and home cinema. Please supervise children near the water and garden fire pit.

What about typhoons and bad weather?

Typhoon season is roughly July to October. Follow local warnings, stay indoors during storms, and contact us if travel is disrupted.

Are there insects?

Yes. This is a rural subtropical island house. We keep the house clean, but insects, geckos, and seasonal visitors are part of the setting.
